Al Hopwood is an award winning artist, writer and curator. He has made projects for major international galleries including Tate Britain, Hayward Gallery, ICA London, Wellcome Collection, Victoria and Albert Museum, Science Gallery Bengaluru and Mona (Museum of Old and New Art in Tasmania). He has collaborated extensively with cognitive psychologists, academics, actors, filmmakers, magicians, musicians, comedians and designers. In 2013 he was the first visual artist to be awarded a Wellcome Trust Engagement Fellowship and in 2019 he co-curated the landmark exhibition Smoke and Mirrors: The Psychology of Magic at Wellcome Collection that attracted over 175,000 visitors. He's worked under a number of different guises including the fictional art collective WITH and A.R. Hopwood. In 2023 he was awarded an unconditional Visual Arts PhD by Publication, from the University of Westminster.
